Mission Trip – part 2

The Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless - Provides temporary housing, emergency winter shelter, children's program, community education, food, clothes, etc.

The attic was full of donated clothes but they didn’t have time to sort them.  The task looked overwhelming when we first went up there but by the end of the week all the clothes were sorted by gender and by size.  We then repacked them into boxes and labeled them so they could be distributed easily.

We sorted donations of school supplies.  They will make these available to the children after school starts.

We made 250 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and 250 turkey and cheese sandwiches.  These were then bagged and ready to hand out to people who needed them.

We helped manage a clothing give away.  We were to watch that people didn’t take too much because there was a long line to get in.  Each person was allowed one pair of shoes and each child was allowed one toy.

We cut frames for crafts, organized the children’s books and games, and cleaned the kitchen.

Mission Trip

group2

Our church planned a mission trip to Philadelphia, PA.  Three weeks prior to leaving that trip fell through.  Our pastor asked us if we wanted to cancel or to try to put something else together.  We all agreed that we wanted to put something else together.  We believed God had called us to go – we just didn’t know where or to do what.

What we didn’t know was that God was already making the plans for us.  A few calls and connections and pretty soon we started to see where we were to go. We ended up going to Jersey City and partnering with The People’s Tabernacle of Worship.  Their pastor graciously housed all 19 of us for a week.

The next couple of blog posts will attempt to tell our story but there is much that can’t possibly be put into words.  God went with is and before us.  It was an incredible week of ministry and blessings.  Please click to the next post.
