Be Still

“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).

This is an imperative.  A command.  What does it mean?

I think it means to be still in our heart.  To recognize God is in control and let Him run the show.  To let go of everything that is troubling you and let God handle it.  That doesn’t mean you do nothing but it does imply that you seek His will.

Know and acknowledge that He is God.  Reflect on His character.  Be still and think about what you know about God.  Really know that He is God – not just intellectually but practically, spiritually, emotionally.

He is in charge.  He is the Creator of the Universe.  He is the beginning and the end.  He is all powerful and all knowing.  He is above all created thing.  He was, and is, and is to come.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,”  (Psalm 46: 1-2)
