Psalm 15

Psalm 15 is a short psalm.  It has just five verses and yet it has a lot to say about our daily life.

1 LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who may live on your holy hill?

2 He whose walk is blameless
and who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from his heart

3 and has no slander on his tongue,
who does his neighbor no wrong
and casts no slur on his fellowman,

4 who despises a vile man
but honors those who fear the LORD,
       who keeps his oath
       even when it hurts,

5 who lends his money without usury
and does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
       He who does these things
       will never be shaken.

I thought about the idea of “Who will be accepted by God?”

The holy hill refers to the place where God dwells.  It is the place where you can meet Him and dwell with Him.  Who can be God’s friend and dwell with Him?  Who can enjoy His protection?  Who can experience His favor?   Who can can receive His provision?  What is it that is required of me?

Then it spells it out …

Walk blameless
do what is right
Speak the truth

Who can do this all the time and never mess up?  We need the strength that comes from Christ.  We need the power that comes from the Holy Spirit and His presence in our lives moment by moment in order to meet these goals.

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.  (Philippians 4:13)

Without Him, I can do nothing.  (John 15:5)

God works in me to do His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13)
